Sam Launius: Icarus Impetus

Icarus Impetus by Sam LauniusStill in his early twenties, photographer Sam Launius has already established his own visual language - his photographs are personal observations based on a very precise sense of color and composition. Through his lens Sam captures the subtle beauty of a non-perfect world. His recent project – Icarus Impetus is a visual diary with notes about personal experiences of a young creative mind. “The privileges I had been granted were like wax wings - temporary vehicles for pursuing my interests before the heat of reality grew too intense for them to function. I took a few hours most afternoons to wander idly with my camera, enjoying the fleeting independence of my solitude. In the moment, each image I chose to capture was independent of the next and an end unto itself. Once developed into photographs able to be seen simultaneously, however, these images began to rely on one another for context and purpose. In essence, Icarus Impetus is about the transition, or perhaps regression, from unrelated independence to correlated dependence.” Words: Sam Launius, Thisispaper Photography: Sam Launius
