Jomi Evers Solheim: Elements

Elements by Jomi Evers Solheim No matter how fast 3D modeling software develops, it will never replace hands-on artisanal approach to design. Jomi Evers Solheim, a Norwegian designer and maker based in Stockholm, created a collection of sophisticated porcelain vases called Elements, using moulds formed around balloons filled with water. By taking advantage of the natural elasticity of latex combined with the way gravity acts upon the water in the balloons, Jomi demonstrates that even the most unlikely materials can be used to create aesthetically pleasing objects. "This ongoing project is an experiment in how to use the elements of air and water in a design process. The project focus on sculptural values and hands-on approaches to design. The porcelain is left white to enhance the visual perception of the forms and the vessels are unglazed on the outside to heighten the tactile experience of the material." - says Jomi.
