The Best Private Chef in Palm Springs

One of my favorite parts of our creative weekend in Palm Springs was the private catered dinner Lauren and I set up for the girls on our last night in town. If you are a long time reader, you may remember that my family did a catered dinner in the desert a few years ago which I posted about. It was such an amazing experience with an amazing chef that I really wanted the girls attending our creative retreat to experience it too.

Once again, I hired Michelle Globis, of Palm Springs Plan, for our private dinner. Michelle is a private chef in Palm Springs, who you can hire to come cook for you, your family, your party, whatever. She mostly follows a Paleo plan with the meals, but don’t worry, they will appeal to everyone! Her food is absolutely delicious and she takes great care in putting each menu together. But it truly goes so far beyond just the meal. This is an experience that I hope everyone can have at some point in their life. So next time you rent a house in the desert with your friends or family, you simply must hire her one evening!

She creates everything from scratch and plans a night well beyond the main meal.

On this particular night, she set us up outside with some charcuterie to get us started. She is adept in any kitchen but mostly brings all her own stuff so she has exactly what she needs. She arrives a few hours prior to your meal time to do the prep work and is such a pleasure to be around. I love chatting with her about nutrition, the desert, anything. She’s a great person all around. But then add on the fact that she is an awesome chef and she just might be my favorite person ever.

She put together a platter of delicious cheeses, one of the best salamis I’ve ever had and fresh fruit. The figs even came out of her own backyard! She stresses local, seasonal and fresh foods. I learn so much from her every time I meet her!

Not only does she prepare a scrumptious dinner, but she serves you as well. She usually starts off a night with a super refreshing, yummy drink. This one was a hibiscus cooler that was tart and bright and I wanted to guzzle it. She doesn’t provide any alcohol but doesn’t mind if you do. We set out some vodka for the gals that wanted to take their beverage up a notch. It was the perfect drink for a warm Palm Springs evening.

Next she served us individual bowls of guacamole with lotus crisps. She remembered how much I loved this from the previous meal she did for us and brought this out as a special surprise. How cool is that! She is just too awesome.

And you know that since this was a group of gals with on-line lives, there was a fair amount of instagramming going on.

One of my favorite parts about Michelle is that she brings not only ridiculous food, but she brings ambiance as well! She brought out a white linen for the outside table as well as this gorgeous orchid! She literally thinks of everything!

Sitting around with the gals, munching on great food and listening to awesome music was such a relaxing way to cap off our creative retreat.

But that was just to start. We still had this full menu to go!! I had originally spoken to Michelle and told her about the theme to our weekend but then let her handle the menu on her own. She played along with our theme a little which was awesome. And it wasn’t over the top, it was perfection.

We started with a cold green gazpacho that had fresh mint and was divine. I could’ve eaten a bucket full of this stuff.

Next up was a mixed greens salad with sweet peppers and the most amazing green goddess dressing I’ve ever had. I’m dying to recreate this at home.

And then it was time for the main courses and sides. From left to right is the hearts of palm salad, garlic ginger broccoli slaw, margarita pork tenderloin and the lemon herb salmon. YOU GUYS!!! All of this was phenomenal! Hearts of palm were new to me and I LOVED it! The broccoli slaw was super flavorful and creamy and the salmon was smokey and delicious. But that margarita pork was AMAZING! The flavors were perfection. I could have easily eaten that whole plate myself. What is so fun about Michelle’s menus is that she isn’t afraid to use different ingredients and step out of the box. Of course she wants to please her eaters, but she’s not going to stick to the run of the mill bbq, or chicken catered meals. She puts out food that tastes good and that is really all you need to know before you hire her. You are going to have a rad meal and a freaking awesome experience.

Especially when she brings out dessert. This was the watermelon lime Tequila granita. Yup, tequila. This was the absolute perfect finish to a perfect meal.

I really need to try my hand at a granita. It really is so refreshing and tasty. This was light and icy cold. And just a touch of tequila.

So after she wines and dines you, she also cleans everything up! She packs up the leftovers for you, gathers her things and leaves the kitchen spotless. I just really can’t say enough about Michelle. She is an absolute doll and an amazing chef. Bookmark this page so you can hire her on your next trip to Palm Springs!

You can find out more about Michelle via her website, Palm Springs Plan or email her for a quote at michelle at palmspringsplan.com. And be sure to follow her on Twitter. She’s just starting her account, show her some love!
