Superfoods, Super Fast! – A Nutribullet Review

Strange things happen to you when you buy your own home. You start liking things which never did it for you before, Like flowers, extortionately expensive candles and fancy mugs which should have cost £100 but ended up costing you double when you accidentally got caught going a little over the speed limit on your way back from John Lewis, fail. But nothing was more shocking to me than the realisation that appliances are actually pretty sexy, no I haven’t lost my mind, and I know that anyone who owns or rents their own home knows exactly what I’m talking about.

When we found our little home I would spend hours trawling the net for home essentials, mirrors, crockery and appliances. During this time I stumbled across the sleek and stylish design of the Nutribullet. It was love at first sight, I wanted it in my kitchen and I wanted it NOW! But we had been lucky enough to be given quite a bit of home essentials including a blender and processor so I had to put the Nutribullet to the back of my mind for the time being.

Fast forward 6 months and with our house full to the brim with all our new possessions, it was time to try the Nutribullet out for myself. My blender/processor is absolutely massive, taking up far too much space in my modest kitchen, and don’t get me started on the endless pieces and parts which I have no doubt lost.

Upon arrival I ripped open the box thinking I was going to need to spend the rest of my day assembling it, but it came pretty much ready to rock, with all 12 stated parts included (these are mainly spare cups and lids to preserve your concoctions). The Nutribullet claims to extract all the goodness of smoothies and juices in one go so that you don’t miss out on all the fiber found in fruit and vegetables which helps you to absorb all the other goodness by improving digestion, in turn giving you more energy and health benefits.

Over the weekend I visited our local market to pick up our usual supply of fruit, veg and flowers, so I could test drive my new toy.

Recipe:

2 Handfuls of Kale

One handful of strawberrys

1/2 a Banana

1 Tbsp of Neal’s Yard Chia Seeds

1 Tsp of Neal’s Yard Maca Powder

Ice Cold Water

I added in 50% Kale, 50% fruits and added the Super-foods to the Large cup which comes with the Nutribullet. I don’t usually use water opting for something sweeter such as fresh apple juice to mask the “green” flavour, so I was a little apprehensive. The prep time was next to nothing at all, I literally bunged everything in and switched it on, left it for a minute to do its thing, stuck in my straw and tried my first Nutribullet smoothie. Which I can confirm, tasted great and I’ve been trying new recipes all week, sometimes the night before and storing them in the fridge or experimenting after my workout in the morning because preparation and cleaning really couldn’t be simpler, which is perfect for the hectic lifestyle I lead.

Over-all I’m so happy with my Nutribullet, it fits neatly and unobtrusively into a corner in my kitchen ready to go whenever I need it. My other blender/processor was so big I had to store it in a cupboard all the time. It’s much more accessible so I use it almost every day now. And after a week of enjoying lots of different recipes, some from the helpful book provided with the Nutribullet and some I free styled, I’m really noticing a difference in my energy levels. I don’t tend to slump in the afternoons quite like I did before (members of the 6am workout club will know) and I’m getting bloated a lot less. I’d always intended to make smoothies a daily thing and the Nutribullet has made this possible.

If you want to try one for yourself I got mine from Ideal World UK here (which is also one of the best prices I’ve seen) or if you have one yourself I’d love to know your favourite recipe!
