the greatest weekend

this weekend was the best! for us it began thursday. after canaan finished his last summer class final that morning we hit the road for his surprise birthday trip to glen rose. I had planned for us to visit fossil rim wildlife center and dinosaur valley state park. our favorite part was definitely seeing the animals and feeding them while driving through the 1800 acre stretch of savanna-like property. we saw zebras, giraffes, emu, wildebeast, cheetahs, several kinds of deer and much more. many of them are endangered species due to human interference so there are efforts being made to save them. we felt good about the money we spent to drive through and would definitely recommend it! that night we watched the most incredible fireworks show we had ever seen at the reservoir nearby. we found the perfect spot away from all the people and street lights to lay on the hood of the car and watch the show. it was amazing! I found us the perfect little cabin tucked away in the woods to rent for the night. the next day we stopped by dinosaur valley. It was a fun place to visit and it’s very beautiful. we saw a few dinosaur tracks but they’re all along the river so depending on how deep or shallow the water is you might not be able to see them all. after hiking a bit we dipped our feet in the river and it felt so good. we wanted to swim and stay longer but we had to get back to dallas because we made plans with our friends for that evening.

canaan and I absolutely love entertaining our friends. we grew up with these people and love having them and their kiddos spend the weekend with us. after having some delicious burgers at twisted root (since we didn’t want to cook and don’t own a grill) we headed to the park near our house for some frisbee, cornhole, and fireworks. we had a blast.

I love how liz is nursing winry, tasha is getting her hair done by eliot (pretending that the bugspray is hairspray) and moses is watching will play the uke. I didn’t realize when I snapped it.
