Meet Moo! Thoughts on Pet Adoption

Here beings my descent into life as a crazy cat woman... Not really, but this is Moo! Though I adopted her several weeks ago, she officially joined the household this weekend. She is a 2.5-year-old little girl with a big appetite and bigger heart. Moo came with her name. Thanks to her coat, it just didn’t feel right to change it.

Growing up, we always had pets. A cat around the house was just a norm. But four years of living in residence halls and college apartments didn’t allow for a four-legged friend of any sort. My freshman year roommate had a beta fish, but he just wasn’t the same.

The idea of getting a cat after graduation crossed my mind, but it seemed like a decision that I’d make further down the road. But sometimes things work out sooner than you think. I found Moo through a local rescue, Meow Village, with the help of my cousin who regularly volunteers with the organization. I first spotted pictures of Moo on Facebook, courtesy of my cousin, and I finally had to meet her in person. Needless to say, she won me over almost immediately.

Meow Village is a cat rescue based in Aurora, Ore., and is powered entirely by volunteers. The organization assists with cat rescue and adoption across the state. My cousin works with them regularly as a “foster mom,” meaning she helps care for the cats and kittens at home until they are adopted. I’ve met some incredibly sweet kitties that come through her household – ranging from kittens to old timers. Finding Moo in the mix reminded me that some of the best things in life come out of unexpected situations.

Is it cheesy to say that I already love this darn cat? Because I do. You can follow Meow Village on Facebook. You can also keep up with Moo’s adventures on Instagram - don’t all kitties have a dedicated Instagram these days? Have you adopted a cat or other pet? What was your experience?
