Introducing The NEWListProject [Guest Post]

Society's definition of beauty as we know it is harmful to girls and women around the world. Lists like Maxim's Hot 100 claim to be the "definitive list of the world’s most beautiful women" show girls that is what "beauty" looks like. Most, if not all, those women look very similar. Playing more into the unrealistic perfection that is shoved down girls' throats in today's world.

We have set out to change the definition of beauty by creating a new list of beautiful women whose beauty is defined by compassion, bravery and action. We think it's important for girls to see that what you do is more important than what you look like. People are most beautiful when they are doing amazing things for themselves and for others. Strong, independent, action-oriented and happy women are most beautiful. Putting this list together shows girls that this kind of beauty is even more important than the physical kind. They can relate to the looks of these different women, but they can also look up to them in real life.

The NEWListProject is all about re-creating a list like Maxim’s Hot 100. The difference is that we are showing a different side of beauty - one that contains depth, passion and world changing action. We want to show beauty in actions, rather than in faces and bodies. The women featured on this list are praised their compassion, bravery and the action they take in life. We have some of the nominees featured on our website right now. The nominations continue to come in and we are hoping to reach all areas of the world. We are working on getting this out to as many women and girls as we can. We have nominations from six different countries so far. We have big plans for the future of this project, and we are so happy that Coffee and Cardigans is a supporter!

You can read about the women behind the project online; Chelsie, Laura, Kate and Lindsey appreciate everyone who plays a role in making this list come to life. Nominate. Share. Get Involved.
