Laugh at Yourself

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting with a model friend who is equally beautiful as she is witty. This girl's a superstar. Every picture she takes is gorgeous. Anyway, we were working a beauty spread and had to get very close to each other to get the right shot. Before the shooting commenced, I said "I apologize ahead of time for being all up on you." We got the awkward giggles out of the way and went in. It required a lot of intimate moments to get what the photographer needed. It's as if we were making out, but our lips never actually touched. Every now and then we caught each other's eyes and started cracking up with laughter. Of course the whole thing was funny. We're standing in a room wearing sweatpants and strapless bras with makeup literally smeared all over our faces pretending to be lovers or whatever while someone takes our picture. It's just ridiculous. Only in our world do things like this occur. In between takes, we did a little silly song and dance number, then got right back to work. The day went by so quickly because we were having a good time.

A month before, we'd both gone on a commercial audition that required us to make fun of ourselves similar to Zoolander. It was such a relief to do something comical instead of the typical "Blue Steel" type stuff. That can be so boring, especially if you're someone with lots of personality which is something we both have. We agreed that in order to get through the day-to-day BS of this job, you can't take things too seriously. You have to be able to make fun of yourself. We are constantly being judged based on our appearances that's it's difficult not to take that criticism to heart. So to get through the hard times, you've just got to laugh.

That goes for anybody and everybody regardless of what kind of job you have. Yes, you should be a hard worker but you can't let your work drag you down. I know how it feels when your boss is putting pressure on you to finish a report or squeeze in a late meeting when you've got other things on your agenda. You feel like you're being pulled in multiple directions and you're going to explode. You need to release that tension and stress somehow. Will the world come to an end if you don't complete the task? Heck no. So please don't worry yourself over the little things. Don't take your job too seriously. Treat yourself to laughter.
