DIY Christmas Gift: Brownie Jar

Hi lovelies! Here is another festive themed post. This is a cheap and easy DIY gift that capitalises on the mason jar trend and the deliciousness of brownies (or any cakey-goodness, feel free to shake things up and put whatever you like in your jar). This is my go-to brownie recipe and it is heaven. Make it, you won’t regret it.

You need a largeish mason jar. I bought mine for $3 at a junk store.

You need:

  • 1 1/2 cup of any type of sugar (raw/, brown or a mixture works best)
  • Roughly 1/2 cup of choc chips (or whatever other mix ins you want)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • A sprinkle of salt
  • 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa

And to make your jar pretty, you need some labels, ribbon, a card and pen. I used chalkboard labels, which I wouldn’t recommend because it is hard to write neatly on and stop from smudging.

I wrote the ingredients and instructions on a label that I stuck on the side of the jar.

On your label, tell your recipient to add 170 grams of butter, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 3 eggs, and mix it all together, and then to bake the brownies at 170 degrees for 30 minutes.

I added marshmallows on top of my brownie mix because there was some room at the top of my jar and I wanted to cushion the mix to stop it moving too much. Plus marshmallows and brownies are the bomb.

Write in your card and thread it onto some ribbon to tie around the jar. To make things easier, you could write the method in the card instead.

And voila, you’re done! Sit back and prepare to become the best family member/friend ever.

And if you’re looking for a present box for some lippy or jewellery, or something small, flatten an empty toilet roll and fold in the tops.

Have a very merry Christmas,
