A conversation with
Luca Errico, head of the Italian branch of Dormeuil woollen mill. Among the news that surprised me the most, the possibility for private customers to buy fabrics for personal usage, just inside the showroom.
The Article - L'articolo Some weeks ago I had the pleasure to interview
Luca Errico,
head of the Italian branch of Dormeuil woollen mill, in the elegant showroom of
Via Bigli in Milan, carved out from an old cloister. Founded in 1842, Dormeuil holds undisputedly a
leadership position in the luxury fabrics industry and, allegedly, has been the first company in making selvages on its own cloths against counterfeiting. The production is based in
Dewsbury, England and the company has eight branches spread in the world.
Luca has followed his
family’s footsteps: his grandfather had a cloths shop in Napoli, his father has worked in Dormeuil for 40 years and now he is in charge of the Italian branch along with his
brother Errico and
Matteo Radice. Their
vicuña collection is breathtaking: the company has
patented a special way to colour these fabrics and as of next winter will provide customers with
eighteen different
colour variations.
Pure cashmere is always in stock and has forty variatons.
As for the Italian branch, 80% of the fabrics sold in Italy is sent abroad (sales to export-oriented Italian companies), variations always in stock are between 1500 and 2000. The best sellers in decreasing order price-wise are the
Ambassador Super 180’s, the
Eclipse Super 150’s in wool and silk, the
Tonic in wool and mohair and, lastly, the
Iconic, a worsted wool.
Distinctive feature of the showroom is the possibility for the customers to
buy fabrics for personal usage and for the
tailors to
receive their
clients in a private room inside the showroom.
____________
diciotto colorazioni. Sono quaranta, invece, i colori di
puro cashmere sempre disponibili.
Ambassador Super 180’s, l’
Eclipse Super 150’s in lana e seta, il
Tonic in lana e mohair, e infine l’
ricevere i propri
clienti in una
stanza a loro dedicata.
