Review: Blanc de La Mer UV Protecting Fluid SPF50 PA+++

We have all heard of La Mer. It is no doubt a luxury brand with the price tag to match. However, you’re not just paying for the brand name. The ever famous Miracle Broth™ is unparalleled and I have friends who swear by it. My first ever luxury skincare purchase was La Mer. I bought the Creme de La Mer before I got married, using a quarter of my paycheck. It was painful but it was worth it. So when I was sent the SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid, the latest addition to La Mer’s illuminating Blanc de la Mer collection, I was excited to try it.

The sunscreen promises more than just protection from UVA and UVB rays. Most sunscreens available nowadays do that. The Blanc de La Mer sunscreen is enriched with the cell-renewing Miracle Broth™ which heals the skin and makes it more luminous. So what’s the difference between this and other brands that come out with sunscreens with whitening benefits? Well, this is La Mer and we’re talking about the Miracle Broth™ which has a cult following.

The sunscreen itself looks a little green tinted to me, but it applies translucent. It doesn’t leave a white cast, but I do think it’s a little heavy when the weather is really hot. It is lightweight and the texture is fluid, and it absorbs into the skin rather quickly. It does leave my skin a little shiny upon application, so I like to apply some makeup and powder over it. It doesn’t cause any makeup meltdowns and it doesn’t make my skin particularly greasy either. However, those with oily skin might not like it. There is a very soft scent which reminds me of Creme de La Mer, and while it’s quite difficult to pin point what it smells like, I can say it’s very pleasant to my nose. If you’re sensitive, you might be happy to learn that the scent dissipates very quickly. I can tell you that it works great as a sunscreen, but I can’t attest to its whitening benefits. I personally believe a combination of serums, moisturizers and sunscreen works best so it’s not fair to test this product alone (for whitening benefits).

The sunscreen costs RM320 for 50ml and the question is always about whether or not I’d purchase this. I can’t honestly tell you I will. I am now an unemployed full time mother, and I have to be practical with my choices. However, if money is not a problem, I’d have a lot of La Mer skincare products in my skincare cupboard. Trust me on that!

What about you? If you’re a believer of a brand, and if money is not an issue, will you splurge? I think I will.

xoxo Lily
