Review: Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Beauty

Clinique just launched a new matte lipstick not long ago. The company wanted a long lasting matte lipstick that doesn’t dry out the lips, and came up with this formula. ALL matte lipsticks I tried get a little uncomfortable at one point or another, so I was curious to see how this works.

I was sent Matte Beauty, a white based pink that reminded me of Twiggy. It goes on opaque and smooth at first swipe, and it doesn’t feel heavy on my lips either. I am also happy to report that it doesn’t transfer on my drinking cup, but it doesn’t last a greasy Asian meal. It wears about 4 hours on me without flaking, which is great, and I haven’t tried any longer, because I tend to get hungry and I’d be eating. Sorry, pregnancy woes. Like all matte lipsticks, this one also clings to the lips, but nothing uncomfortable. Be warned though – if you have dry flaky lips, it’d be better if you scrubbed your lips first. One or 2 layers of this lipstick gives you more than enough colour, but any more than that will leave you with wrinkly lips.

Below is how Matte Beauty looks like. It’s a little more milky in real life, if you get what I mean. Can’t seem to capture that in photos. Looks about right in the second photo though.

The new Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick Shades are only available online. There are 8 shades being sold at the moment, at RM70 each. I’m a bit reserved about this concept of selling it online only, because the online swatches aren’t exactly reliable. I like to SEE what that lipstick looks like before I purchase. I mean, that’s where we bloggers come in handy, but still, I find it a hassle and a gamble. Also, in this country, those who are online savvy are mostly of a particular age group, so maybe this is niche targeting? I do hope Clinique will have them sold at counters. That might be a more popular move, reaching a wider audience. Since Clinique is everywhere, it is convenient for people to drop by, then perhaps swatch and purchase. Have any of you tried these?

xoxo Lily
