Review: Lunasol Water Gel Foundation in Y002

I always prefer lighter coverage foundations. I love the weightlessness of the foundation, and I only need some coverage to even out my complexion. Sometimes though, we need some heavier coverage foundation for a more flawless finish for that special occasion. The Lunasol Water Gel Foundation is one of them.

The shade I use is Y002, the lightest yellow based shade available here, and while it looks very yellow, it doesn’t look like it when applied. This foundation provides at least a medium coverage, and can be built up to full coverage. I like that while it gives more coverage, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It keeps my skin moisturized, and doesn’t emphasize flakes. While it covers redness and some minor marks, it does not cover my freckles. It makes my skin look brighter and even, and I don’t need to use any concealer with this foundation. I don’t even need to powder if I don’t want to.

As you can see in the before after photo below, my skin is evened out and a little brighter (which I need because my face is a little duller compared to the rest of me) but you can still see the pigmentation in all its glory. I don’t try to cover them up either. Let’s stick to looking more natural and believable ok? I’m not into makeup that looks like face paint. You can also see that the finish is very natural, just like my skin. It might be my skin condition at the moment, but I don’t even need to touch up or powder after a few hours. There is a little glow on my face after my skin’s natural oil shines through, but nothing I need to blot.

I generally stay away from heavier coverage foundations because the shade match is more forgiving, but when it comes to Japanese brands, I can easily find one that suits me better. Is this foundation that good? Yup, I love it because it just works so effortlessly. It tones down my skin redness without me having to use a colour correcting primer, and the foundation shade matches me perfectly. I have no complaints

I bought this more than a year ago for RM168/30g so I don’t know if there’s any price hike since then. It is pricier than brands like Lancome and Dior, but worth it. Have you tried anything from Lunasol before?

xoxo Lily
