Review: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics and Black Magic 24/7 Glide-On Double-Ended Eye Pencil Set

I have here a basic eye palette and an eye pencil set that you might be interested in. If you have the Naked 2 palette, the Naked 2 Basics is a great supplementary palette with all matte shades. The Black Magic pencil set is all love! I love my black pencil liners, and these dual ended ones are my kind of pencils.

Naked2 Basics Eye Shadow Palette (RM103)

As you can see, this is a palette of 6 matte cool browns which still complements all skin tones. As you can see, the 3 lighter shades are quite subtle on my skin, and on the lids, they’re just a wash of colour which can be used to blend out the darker shades. All the swatches are done on my dry arm, without foundation or primer. I swatch them using my fingers, 2 passes. Undone looks a little dry and stiff on my arm, but when applied on the lids with a brush, it blends smoothly without patchiness. I’ve tried all these 6 shades on my eyes, and all of them apply beautifully. In fact, I love the combination of Primal and Undone as my brow colour! Perfect ashy brown – I’ll show you in the look I did below.

SKIMP – pale nude satin, STARK – nude-pink matte, FRISK – warm gray matte, COVER – muted red-brown matte, PRIMAL – muted brown matte, UNDONE – deep, smoky brown matte

Black Magic 24/7 Glide-On Double-Ended Eye Pencil Set (RM139)

Need I say more about these eye pencils? You guys know I love them – they’re easy to apply, they last on my lash lines without transferring, and they literally glide on as the name suggests. Black Velvet and Perversion are the blackest of blacks with Black Velvet the smoothest to apply. In this set, you get 4 different black liners, and on the other end, there’s a brown, a sparkly navy, a purple and a gray. All of them apply beautifully, and it’s so handy. If you love pencil liners, you can’t miss this set!

ZERO DEMOLITION – zealous black cream deep brown matte

PERVERSION LSD – blackest black matte navy shimmer with bright turquoise micro-sparkle

BLACK MARKET TORNADO – charcoal black satin dark eggplant pearl

BLACK VELVET SMOKE – rich, smoky black matte deepest gray matte

Below is a look I created using the Naked2 Basics palette, and the dual-ended eye pencil in Black Velvet Smoke. I used Undone close to my lash lines, then blended it out using Cover, before softening the line again with Frisk. I also used Skimp on my brow bones for a subtle highlight. Black Velvet is used to tight line my upper lash line, and Smoke is smudged out on my lower lash line. See my brows which look darker than usual? I used the combination of colours I mentioned above. Of course, the darkness can be adjusted, but I like how it still looks natural

I decided to do a matte smokey eye using this palette because it’s really easy to create a day time look. If you need to use a primer, I’d recommend powdering your eyes with loose powder or a powder foundation before applying these matte shades. I made the mistake of applying them immediately after applying a teeny bit of foundation on my lids, and the colours went on a little patchy. Nothing about the eye colours, just my mistake in method

I hope you enjoyed this entry, and both are gorgeous products. If you don’t have matte neutrals, this palette is a no brainer and a great addition to your collection. If you’re a fan of pencil liners, Black Magic is a must have! These are already available at Sephora, so go have a look I think they’re both reasonably priced too.

xoxo Lily
