Review: Dior Christmas Look 2014 Diorific Golden Shock

I am late in posting a brief review on a few products from this line, but I’ve only just received the products a couple of weeks ago. I’m pretty sure you’ve seen these products at Dior counters by now. What do you think of them? Today I’m showing you 3 products (and an eye palette which I will feature in a separate post) – Shock Colour Lip Duo Matte and Metallic in 001 Delicate Shock (RM116), Diorific Vernis 001 Golden Shock Gold Leaf Effect Topcoat (RM87) and Illuminating Pressed Powder in 001 Gold Shock (RM275).

Let’s start with the item that intrigued me the most. The duo lip color in matte and metallic. Delicate Shock is a very wearable shade, and it appears peachy pink on my lips. I can only wear the matte peachy shade on its own but I can’t wear the metallic shade alone due to the lightness of the shade. To wear that, I’d apply the matte shade and then use the metallic on top of it. Problem with doing that is the colour transferring from my lips to the bullet, and I don’t like it. I’m a little OCD and I like to keep my lipstick bullets clean. Call me weird. The matte shade actually feels a little dry in the beginning, but after a few uses, the texture became creamier.

Next up is the Gold Leaf Effect Top Coat. I’ve always admired how nail bloggers use textured or glittered top coats, but I never tried them because I’m just not very good at applying nail colours. This one looks heavenly in the bottle and it transforms a simple colour to something more elegant! And because I haven’t used topcoats like this before, I didn’t know what to expect. The first time I tried, I couldn’t get the gold leaf flake on the brush. The second time, I could only get one. After a few tries, I finally got some gold leafs on my nails. Gosh, this takes skillz! Last but not least, the Illuminating Pressed Powder that’s been getting a bad rep and I hate to say it, but I have to agree. The packaging is glorious! The fresh pan looks so sparkly but it’s only an overspray. After removing the silver glitters, the powder underneath is a yellow gold powder that is not as fine as expected. It is a little chunky and doesn’t stay on the skin very well. I used the teeniest bit to highlight, but it’s a little too warm and dark on my complexion so it just looked like a patch of yellow on my cheeks. Since it doesn’t work as a highlighter, I tried to use it as an eye shadow. It’s not too bad actually. A little sheer, but it adds a gold sheen on the lids. I’d suggest using a cream base so that the powder stays. Otherwise, it’d be gone in a couple of hours.

Out of these 3, I’d recommend you check out the lipstick. It’s something different, and there are a few shades to choose from. Of course, there’s the eye palette which I really like, so be sure to stay tuned for that!
