Rustic Christmas Art (and a giveaway!)
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a few weeks away…where did time go? If it wasn’t getting dark crazy early and making me feel like I’m cooking dinner at midnight I almost wouldn’t believe it.
Today I have a simple Christmas craft to share with you. It’s the only one I have planned for the year because I’m not one of those organized bloggers that’s good a planning ahead. Also, I’m busy turning food into a human…that’s a legitimate excuse, right? It feels legitimate to me. Here is what I made…
It started with a pallet…
Which was made into three little wooden canvas’.
I chose one stencil for each…the Winter Cardinals Stencil, Pine Cones Stencil, and Snowflake Stencil from Cutting Edge (all between $8.95 and $10.95).
You may recognize the snowflake stencil, it’s the same one I used last year to make these (which are my favorite Christmas craft to date)…
I can’t even help it, I think snowflakes are my favorite winter decor. They’re just so pretty and, well….foreign. Quick rabbit trail – The other day I found Elijah silently sitting by the window, staring outside for an unusual amount of time. I asked him what he was looking at and he said “it’s almost Christmas so I’m waiting for the snow!” Poor kid, everywhere he looks Christmas is tied to snow and he is so excited about it…but it doesn’t snow here in south Texas. I really hoping we get a flurry or two or a good ice day so that he can enjoy it, but until then snowflakes crafts will have to do.
Anyway, if you’ve been reading for any amount of time you are pretty familiar with the process of stenciling…tape down stencil (3M General Purpose 45 Spray Adhesive, 10-1/4-Ounce

I experimented with the other two stencils by adding layers of paint and they turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself.
I only got to hang two of them though, since I jacked up the pine cone one by trying to handwrite “Season’s Greetings” on it with a paint pen. I got cocky after my layered paint technique worked out and forgot that free handing stuff isn’t quite as simple.
This weekend we finally decorated for Christmas, tiny tree and all. I usually spread decorations throughout the house, but this year I decided to keep things simple and concentrate everything within about a ten foot radius in our entry/main hallway. I love Christmas decorations, but I get tired of them really quickly when you have to move furniture around pack up normal shelf items. This solves that problem and I can fully love them until they come down!
Also, please don’t be fooled by the apparent cleanliness. It’s a mess just beyond the camera lens, just like in my Christmas house tour last year.
Also, closer inspection will reveal stuff like this…
Oh yeah…just like in the magazines. About two years ago all our thresholds came unglued and we have yet to fix them. Admit it, you have easy little maintenance items that get put off for years as well. If you don’t fix them right when they break they get put off and put off…then one day (probably when you’re about to sell your house) you fix everything and wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
