This happens every year. I rush into the season of fall; in fact, I rush every season. I just want to layer and wear scarves and sweaters and booties until I actually have to and then I'll want to wear shorts and pretty skirts without tights.
Fickle, I think, is the word I'm looking for.
I have learned though that it is possible to dress for a season without it actually being that season's expected temperatures. For example, using color instead of layers. Autumn hues are easy to come by this time of year and don't require a lot of layering. I picked up
this pair of Genetic Denim wine (merlot, if we are being specific) colored jeans at Nordstrom and love them so much that I
might marry them. They are so soft, they don't even feel like jeans. I wasn't even looking for colored denim at the time, in fact I've been on the fence with color denim this fall but
this color sold me. It's a deep enough shade of burgundy that it blends perfectly with my the other autumn shades I have hanging in my closet.
Another way to hack fall styles is to layer lightly. Take a lightweight jacket (
this blazer tho), a loose cotton tank and you've got yourself layers without being an overheated mess. Put a hat on it and all of a sudden, you're looking like autumn. Even if the weather decides to cooperate with your outfit or not.
