The Review: Creatures of the Wind Spring/Summer ’14

“Hail Hyperborea” was the theme of Creatures of the Wind’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. While the Hyperborea were a mythical people in Ancient Greece who lived in a land the Greeks thought to be perfect, where the sun shined 24 hours a day. Although the inspiration sounds like heaven, it’s my belief designers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters have evolved into a force greater than beyond the Boreas.

While introducing flattering and wearable pieces, the COTW designers have remained true to their mythical, artistic roots (hence “Hail Hyperborea”). During their lineup for Spring/Summer 2014, Gabier and Peters showed a variety of coats, from sleeveless double-breasts to a long trench. And even though the accessory of choice was a sense of whimsy, this fair-weathered collection is sure to peek the aspiring fashionista’s interest with its cute colorblocking, pretty python, patterns, metallic pieces and rose appliqués.
