Vintage Lazy Susan Makeover

If you saw my post last week on How I Made Over My Laundry Room for Less than $20, you saw the vintage wash boards and the large basket in the below picture getting made over and put to use. For this project, I used the raw wood lazy susan. All these goodies are things my step-dad gave me from his mom’s house. They are all old, awesome, and have been a great source of inspiration these last few weeks.

I started by painting the lazy susan with two coats of DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Whisper (from Michael’s). Next, I cut the stencil for this compass using my Silhouette CAMEO, in two parts. Sometimes I stencil with vinyl, other times, like this time, I used scrapbook paper and Repositionable Adhesive Spray (I use Krylon Easy-Tack).

This shows the stenciling of part one and then getting ready to add in the secondary details (after the first part was thoroughly dry, of course).

Once dry, I lightly distressed the design and edges of the lazy susan with a fine sanding block and finished up with two coats of Annie Sloan Clear Wax, allowing 24 hours drying time between coats.

And that’s it! (P.S. You’re seeing peeks of my porch makeover in this pic. You can see the whole makeover here. You’re also seeing way more kiddo handprints on the glass table than I realized when I took these pics. For the sake of showing the real side of life, I’m opting to go with it instead of cleaning the table and re-taking all the photos.)
