Rosenberry Rooms

Meet Catherine McCord of Weelicious!

With a whimisical name and a healthy mission, Weelicious focuses on educating kids and involving them in the cooking process. Catherine McCord and her team encourage parents to be honest – no sneaking veggies! – and to include kids in the cooking process by exposing them to food from the moment it comes out of the ground to giving them age-appropriate tasks in the kitchen. Get to know more about Catherine and what inspires her to inspire families!

What inspired you to create Weelicious?
When my son, Kenya, was born I had no idea what to feed him! I looked online to find help and found nothing. So I started making his baby food, photographing it, and posting it to Weelicious.

What is your favorite part of your daily work? When you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
I love creating new recipes that my family loves. When my kids walk through the door after school and are excited to eat what I’ve created that day, I am over the moon!
Do you have any advice for other working moms?
Make an action plan! Do as much as you can ahead of time. I pack school lunch the night before and leave it in the fridge. I batch cook on Sundays so that I have chicken, pasta, rice, vegetables all ready to go for the rest of the week.
What is your most memorable project?
Some friends and I went through a nutrition bar phase. We would spend all day everyday in the kitchen figuring out how to make the healthiest and tastiest nutrition bars around with the intention of selling them. The business didn’t last very long, but all the experimentation was very fun.
If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be?
This question is so tough! There are so many chefs, restauranteurs, and bloggers who inspire me daily and I would love to work with all of them!
What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?
I recently attended Blog Her Food where I learned so much about this ever-evolving business and got to meet tons of talented bloggers.

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
France! I lived in France for a short time while modeling and it has always held a special place in my heart. I learned to speak French, am teaching my children, and can’t wait to take them there with me one day.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?
I would love to go on an African Safari!

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?
I love the art prints and wall plaques for kids!

Do you have any news that you would like to share (upcoming events, projects, etc.)?
We launched Weelicious Menus in January. It is a weekly meal planning service where we set your weekly dinner menu, give you a shopping list, make-ahead tips, and ways to get the kids involved in cooking. We also have a help forum that is exclusively for Weelicious Menus subscribers. We talk about all things food and cooking… and picky eaters! With personal experience and help from a variety of real moms and dads including myself, Daisy at Home, Prescribe Nutrition, and Curious Ventures.

Just for fun:

Favorite Food: Anything fresh that I can just wash and eat. During the summer I love to snack on stone fruits!
Favorite TV Show: Honestly, we don’t watch much TV in our house but I try to get in The Chew whenever I can.
Favorite Movie: Anything my hubby has produced, of course!
Favorite Weekend Activity: Packing a picnic and taking a walk to the park with my kids and hubby.
Favorite Musician/Band: Whatever is on the top of my Spotify list this week!
