doh! how can i, of all people, be talking play dough. yea. that’s right. play dough. you all know that i can’t bake.(i can cook, but in this season of life, it’s pretty much fish fingers & spag bol. exciting stuff.) but hey, despite my terrible track record i am going to share with you one of my greatest secrets in the whole wide world. the best play dough recipe that love can find.

it all started with a lovely lady, maureen, and a little playgroup up the hill. so unassuming. but dynamite. the first thing i noticed was the texture. then the smell. then the fact that one term the play doh was apple green, the next, hot pink … then blue … then purple. it got me thinking. who’s behind this extravaganza. enter maureen. lovely, wise, sensible, practical. her recipe is flawless. it took us about a year to pluck up the courage to ask for the prized recipe. we have not looked back. are you ready folks? here goes …

Maureen’s Flawless Play Dough

2 CUPS PLAIN FLOUR
4 TABLESPOONS CREAM OF TARTAR
2 TABLESPOONS COOKING OIL
1 CUP SALT (table salt)
2 CUPS BOILING WATER
FOOD COLOURING

MIX ALL DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER
ADD OIL
ADD FOOD COLOURING
ADD BOILING WATER AND MIX WELL UNTIL MIXTURE COMES TOGETHER
TURN ONTO A BOARD AND KNEAD (as with bread dough)
May need a little more oil to get it right … and the next most important step …
ADD A FEW DROPS OF LAVENDER OIL TO HELP CALM MAMA.
