Knit a Baby Bib & My Favorite Bloggers Go Baby Style

Each month, a few of my blogging friends get together to share projects based around a theme. We've shared apple projects, spring projects, zombie projects, heart shaped projects, homemade holiday projects, "Thanks" projects, and pumpkin projects. Today we're going Baby Style.

The project I'm sharing with you is a simple to knit baby bib. It's inexpensive when you use Lily Sugar & Cream cotton yarn (available at Michaels, Jo-Anns, Wal-mart....virtually everywhere). And you can whip it up in an evening or two (depending on how quickly you knit). Here's the finished bib.

For this project, gauge isn't super critical. Nope, just knit to enjoy. If you'd like to make your bib a bit longer or shorter, feel free. Lily Sugar & Cream Cotton Yarn will wear like iron. However, note that is you chose a bright or dark colored yarn, the color will fade over time. Don't worry, though. That will just create a cool vintage look. Before I share the instructions, let's look at the other baby projects.

Okay, now back to the bib. Are you ready to knit one, two, three or more? Here's the instructions.

Knitted Baby Bib

Supplies:

US8 knitting needles
Stitch Holder
Lily Sugar & Cream Cotton Yarn
Button
Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

CO cast on
BO bind off
K knit
P purl
K2TOG knit 2 together
YO yarn over

Instructions:

CO40 stitches
Rows 1-6 K
Row 7 K
Row 8 K2, P36, K2
Rows 9-12, repeat rows 7 & 8
Row 13 K
Row 14 K
Row 15 K4, *YO, K2TOG, K3* Repeat from * until 4 stitches remain, K4
Row 16 K
Row 17 K2, P36, K2
Row 18 K
Row 19 K2, P36 K2
Row 20 K4, *YO, K2TOG, K3* Repeat from * until 4 stitches remain, K4
Row 21 K
Row 22 K
Row 23 K2, P36, K2
Rows 24-75 Repeat Rows 22 & 23 26 times
Rows 76- 81 K
Row 82 K10 (Place these 10 stitches on a stitch holder), BO 20, K10

Knit the straps

On the 10 stitches, K every row until it reaches 4.25 inches.
Next row, K4, BO2, K4
Next row, K4, CO2, K4
Knit every row until your strap is 5.25 inches.
BO

The second strap will be knit on the stitches placed on the stitch holder. Starting on the wrong side, K every row until the second strap is the same length as the first strap. BO.

To finish your bib.

Sew on your button, weave in all your loose yarn ends, and block.
