Look of the Day: Watch Out Boy, She'll Chew You Up
"Oh-oh here she comes, she's a Maneater!" Or at least that's how I feel when I wear this lipstick! It's no secret that I'm a sucker for a red lip, and
Illamasqua Matte Lipstick in
Maneater is one heck of a beaut. If you haven't heard the disappointing news,
Illamasqua is totally leaving the Canadian market over the coming months. A huge shame, as I've always been an enthusiastic supporter of the brand. The only happy vestige from this change is that all
Illamasqua products have been
25% off at
The Bay since August, which means the entire range can be snagged for a steal. While most shades are sold out by now (at least at the Queen Street location here in Toronto), I was lucky enough to snag
Maneater, which is a gorgeous matte, slightly warm cherry red. It truly makes me feel like a femme fatale!
To complement the bold, matte lip, I opted for dewy, luminous skin and softly smokey eyes. For the eyes, I turned to a couple of new
Colour Crush Eye Shadows from
The Body Shop, which offer amazing pigmentation and adorable shade names to match! I applied
Brownie and Clyde (a cool, shimmery deep brown) along both upper and lower lash lines, smudging and smoking things out just a touch. To keep it a simple smokey look, I finished off with touches of
Colour Crush Eye Shadow in
Oh, Honey as a highlight, and two coats of an amazing volumizing mascara,
Clinique High Impact in
Black.
For the skin, I also gravitated towards a new
Body Shop find. I applied a generous layer of the
Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream in Light, which gives the most beautiful glowy, but not at all greasy, coverage to the skin. I topped it with
Inglot Illuminizing Pressed Powder #402 all over the face for an extra luminous finish. I contoured 'dem cheekbones with the eternally impressive
Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder in
Medium and dusted the apples of my cheeks with (I'll say it again) my all-time favourite blush,
NARS Deep Throat.

And a few more shots of the look:
Overall, I was super duper happy with this look. I found that the dewy skin and softly smokey eyes complemented the strong, matte lip quite nicely, which made this a rather wearable sort of glam. While I know not all of you would sport this to the grocery store, as I did (was a real exciting day, folks!), hopefully it might be something you would consider trying for a special occasion when you want to pump up the drama without having to fuss with dark black shadow or winged liner. It's not every day that I walk down the street with a feeling of extra va-va-voom, but this look really did it for me. Thanks to Maneater, I really felt like one glamorous gal!
Is this a look that you would wear? What are your favourite red lipsticks? What makeup products put an extra bounce in your step?
