Welcome to Day 2 of my
31 day series on organizing your life! Today I want to talk about embracing a clutter free life. You can clean out all you want and get rid of half your stuff but if you don't truly embrace having a clutter free life you will just clutter it up again. Take it from me- I have been a clutter magnet for most of my life. I have always had trouble getting rid of things and we aren't going to even discuss my shopping addiction. Ahem.
I had to make some major life changes and alter my attitude in order to really be able to embrace living a more organized lifestyle. I stopped shopping for things I did not need. I mean, really? Who needs 37 pairs of jeans? Although I must admit, it was really hard to get rid of some of those jeans. But I did.
I also had to change my mindset of keeping everything. I had a horrible habit of putting things in a closet because I might need it one day. Sound familiar? But then time would go by and I would forget what I had so I would buy duplicates of items I already had stashed in the closet. It was a vicious cycle. I had to be realistic about the things I choose to keep in our house.
You are responsible for the energy you bring into your space. Wise words from Oprah, y'all. But so true. By cluttering up our house I was allowing negative energy into the space. Now I have a rule for everything I keep in our home. It must serve a purpose and be useful at this time. No more shoving things in a closet just in case I need it sometime in the next 5 years.
That's where I started my journey. Tomorrow I'll share my process for how I de-cluttered my whole house in less than 60 days. See you then!
