Consumer Credit Organization: Craig’s List Ad is Fake

(WXIA) — Atlanta-based Clearpoint Credit Counseling Solutions is a national non-profit agency staffed by hundreds of counselors who help consumers get out of debt, avoid foreclosure and improve their credit score. It used to be called Consumer Credit Counseling Service.

Clearpointsays its name was recently used in a phony employment ad on Craigslist.

The Craigslist ad was one of several from Clearpoint that claimed to provide budget, debt and housing advice. The ads listed openings for clerical and administrative positions.

This particular job required the client to give credit card information in order to re-format her resume. On further review we were able to see that it was a fake job posting, completely fake, said Clearpoint Spokeswoman Tai Roberson.

Roberson said the ads appeared in several Craigslist sites across the country, some of which also contained the Better Business Bureau logo. We have posted a warning with the Better Business Bureau as well as with the Federal Trade Commission. Weve also asked Craigslist to remove the posting, which they have done, she added.

Experts warn job seekers to think before uploading a resume on social media, and instead, go through a companys official website.

Job-seekers often upload your resume on any employment ad online that instructs you to upload your resume and forget that your name address, contact information all your previous jobs are on it. Thats the kind of thing identify thieves look for, said the Atlanta Better Business Bureau spokeswoman Jennifer Bentley.
