"I Origins"

A molecular biologist and his laboratory partner uncover evidence that may fundamentally change society as we know it.

Just how much of ourselves can be viewed through our eyes? Actress/writer Brit Marling (Sound of My Voice, The East) delves into that question in her last film with writer/director Mike Cahill (a followup to 2011’s Another Earth). You can’t understand the profound love I have for this movie… and now the trailer is here so you can begin to love it, too. As a scientist by training, I usually feel that movies about scientists fail at being authentic, but this is one that does a pretty good job. Do beware, the trailer gets a lot of the plot away but will still be a lot to think about after you watch the film.

Dubbed one of my two favorites films from the 15 movies I screened at Sundance in January I Origins is a movie that will profound in the way that it address the inherent opposition between science and faith. I Origins is not a “religious” movie however, the reason why it is so comes across so inclusive. Here’s what I had to say about it: “The beauty of the film is that it does not ask of the audience to choose a side; it just opens doors to possibilities through the journey of one person. The power in these films comes that both the skeptic and the believer have something more to think about.” (full review) (tumblr site)
