from "Day of the Dead:"
Valentina lifted two gloves from the box on the tray beside the table. Once she had them on, she approached the body to have a closer look. She gingerly touched the wounds at the neck. Bite wounds, that could only be something thin and sharp, and the width of incisors. "What did this?" she asked with curiosity.
"You mean who did this?
"Wait. What? " She looked up and met the detective's gaze.
"We have the guy upstairs. We found him with the body with blood all over his face. We're assuming he's the one who did this. Thought you could take a look at his teeth and the marks on the body to verify it. We also need to know if this person was dead before the guy started well...eating him. Is it murder or do we need to have psych evaluation."
"Wouldn't he need one no matter the case?" She lifted one eyebrow.
He gave her a grim smile. "Yes, he would."
She turned back to the body. "I'll send somebody up to take an impression of the man's teeth. Then give me a day or two. I'll have the results if the victim was alive or dead."
"No worries. Our suspect is upstairs with Hernandez, getting tested for rabies and anything else that could have caused him to eat another human being. I'll let him know you need those impressions pronto. We'll be in touch."

Stephanie Burkhart was born in Manchester, New Hampshire. After graduating from Central High, she joined the U.S. Army. She spent eleven years in the military, seven stationed in Germany. She left the Army in 1997 and settled in California. Stephanie has been married for over twenty years and has two boys, Andrew and Joseph. She now works for LAPD as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher.

Cecilia Corona is a massage therapist by day and enjoys the adventures of writing by night. When she's not sitting at her computer plotting her next tale, she's enjoying the Southern California weather. She loves movies, animals of all kinds, especially her three dogs, and she's a big fan of mermaids. When she was young and saw the movie Splash for the first time, she believed sprinkling salt in the bathtub would magically allow her to grow a tail. She was sadly disappointed when the experiment didn't work. If she can't be a mermaid, then maybe she'll just have to write about them.
