Feel like a badass

When was the last time that you did something that made you feel like a Badass?

I’m talking about that thing that you didn’t think was possible – then you did it and felt like you could conquer the world.

I was watching an episode of Extreme Weight Loss the other day. It was an episode that featured twins who had struggled their whole lives with their weight. At the beginning of the episode, the boy twin said he had a goal of doing a 24 hour military bootcamp. After their 9 month weigh in, the twins participated in a crazy intense bootcamp. It was extremely difficult. But, they did it. When they were done, they both had a smile on their face that was bigger than anything you could imagine. They were so happy and proud of themselves. The boy twin talked about feeling like a badass.

I remember the feeling of accomplishment – badass-ness – after reaching several milestones: my first 5K, my first double digit training run and my first half marathon.

When I feel low, I try to channel that feeling. I start to look for new things to try so that I can remind myself that I can do what I set my mind to do. The feeling of being a badass is such an amazing feeling that it drives me to keep pushing. It’s why I’m working so hard to start building my mileage back up. I miss the feeling after finishing a long run, after pushing a little longer.

As a parent, I love watching my kids reach new goals – whether it’s my daughter mastering a difficult dance move after practicing and practicing. Or my son going in to a big soccer game and stepping up to successfully defend a kid twice his size. The smiles of accomplishment on their faces are inspiring.

It makes me realize how important it is for everyone to experience this. The confidence that comes from the feeling of being a badass is the best.

What was the last thing you did that made you feel like a badass? I’d love to hear your stories.
