Pride Prom

We didn't have a Pride parade or festival this year in the town where I live. Instead, some awesome people got together and decided to throw an exclusive Pride Prom. The timing could not have been more apt--the end of June (pride month), moving out of my place and having Katrina there with me, celebrating that my boss had agreed to let me work from home once I live in Indy, and just days before the Supreme Court would make their monumental ruling on DOMA & Prop 8.

A candid shot from the photographer
I felt proud and happy, surrounded by the gay community I had come to know over the past year or so. Many familiar faces, and many new, it made me feel hopeful and proud of this area. The mayor of the town even stopped in to say hello and show his goodwill towards the LGBT community. A photographer from the newspaper was there snapping pictures. Drag queens, cute lesbians, older gay couples, straight allies, and everything in between. It was a colorful and fun group, everyone was able to just dance freely, love freely and be themselves.

We were exhausted from a full day of cleaning and packing my apartment, but we made the most of the evening even so. Getting dressed up, going out for a nice dinner at my favorite tapas restaurant, and dancing for hours with the lively crowd.
