Spring Forward with Chanel Jardin de Camelias Collection 2014

I cannot resist limited edition releases and especially when it’s Chanel. Whatever common sense I have remaining seem to fall out the window when I see their Spring and Holiday collections because I want to hoard ‘em all. That was how I ended up going home with a lighter wallet and two absolutely gorgeous items.

My first pick was the Jardin de Camelias Illuminating Powder. The effect is rather subtle but it leaves my skin looking so pretty and erm… highlighted. The texture is soft and the powder is finely milled. It has slight champagne and pink undertones without being too cool or frosty.

I like sweeping highlighting powders across the top of my cheekbones and down the center of my nose. A good highlighter does make a difference in brightening your overall appearance and helping you look more radiant. I need all the assistance possible because I’ve been working late nights and weekends and have not been sleeping well. So anything that perks me up is very welcomed.

My second pick was the Jardin Zen eyeshadow quad. How do you resist such prettiness? Anyway, the colours may not be ground-breaking but the combination works very well together. I like eyeshadow palettes that have light, medium and deep tones so this quad has ticked off all the right boxes.

  • Illuminating Powder: soft translucent champagne pink
  • Eyeshadow (top left): medium taupe-grey
  • Eyeshadow (top right): light beige-gold
  • Eyeshadow (bottom left): soft medium pink with peachy tones
  • Eyeshadow (bottom right): black-brown

The finish of each shadow is satin but the lighter shades appear a bit more shimmery under bright lighting. The colours combined are rather understated, which is quite typical of Chanel eyeshadows. If you use more of the black, you’ll get a more intense eye look. If you have oily lids, you’d definitely need an eye primer because these shadows will not last long.

I love these two products and am glad I managed to snap them up before they disappear off the shelves. I love the intricate camellia flower embossment, which I thought looked similar to a Japanese landscape drawing. It makes this collection particularly special.

What I don’t love is the price but that’s what I had to sacrifice for the double C’s. The Illuminating Powder is RM215 and the eyeshadow quad is RM198. Therefore, I’d only recommend getting these items if you are a die-hard Chanel fan and collector like myself.

What has caught your attention from the Chanel Jardin de Camelias 2014 collection? I’d love to hear from you so do pop in and share your thoughts.
