4 Tips for More Energy

With marathon training in full force, I’m finding myself looking for more energy. Even earlier morning wake-ups (zero dark thirty is in full force now) and my body building and repairing muscle with every workout, it’s kind of exhausting.

Here are four tips for more energy that I’ve been trying to follow:

1. Sleep. I charge my phone every night on my nightstand. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I sometimes automatically reach for my phone. Of course, that leads to checking email, Instagram, Facebook, blogs, etc. Even if it’s for a few minutes, I still interrupted my sleep with the artificial light. Once I realized I was doing it, I promptly made an effort to break that nasty habit. So far, I think I’m feeling more rested throughout the day just from that simple fix.

2. Drink more water. My go-to drink all day long is water. I’m a heavy sweater so mixed with running longer and in warmer temps, I’m losing a lot of fluid. After a recent 10 miler, I found that even though I had two bottles of water during my run, I still was dehydrated. I felt horrible. As soon as I replenished my fluids, I felt good as new. That served as a reminder – drink up no matter if you are in marathon training or training for life!

3. Laugh often. I love to laugh. Who doesn’t, right? Whether it’s watching silly videos on YouTube or hanging out with family and friends, laughing instantly gives me more energy. My face brightens and my heart feels lighter in the process.

4. Eat a more filling breakfast. I’m a huge breakfast fan. I recently tried Nature Valley™ Protein Granola. I grew up eating Nature Valley™ granola bars so I knew it was going to be good. Oh and maybe because it’s Peanut Butter ‘N’ Dark Chocolate too. I kind of have a slight weakness for that combination. A 1/2 cup of Nature Valley™ Protein Granola provides 10 grams of protein and 22-26 grams of whole grain, at least 48 grams of whole grain recommended daily.

I’ve been pairing it with Greek yogurt and whatever fresh fruit we have in the house. I think I need to try the recipe for Chocolate and Toasted Coconut Yogurt Bowl soon. Kind of an amazing combination, no? I also have been eating it by the handfuls. I get super excited when I find a big cluster of granola.

Why do they taste so much better?
