Favorite Reads of the Week | 2

You guys! I only have four days until my surgery and I managed to post every day (and finish all my Skillcrush homework)! While I won’t be posting every day after my nose works again for the first time, I will post at least three times a week. Boom. It only took me forcing myself to write for two weeks straight, but I finally find myself inspired and motivated.

What inspired you this week?

Sunday Morning Sugar

I met Malori last year at Blogshop and have been stalking her online ever since. As I was putting together my favorite reads for you, a new Sunday Morning Sugar post popped up on my WordPress reader. The picture alone is genius and the words behind it were icing on the cake. Well done, Mal – I’m going to take off my pants and eat ice cream in support. Just kidding. I live alone and rarely have pants on in the first place.

The Beauty Department

I don’t want to like TBD because a hair and makeup obsession could perhaps be seen as vain or superficial… but it’s just so good. The tips! The tutorials! The graphics! I love it all. Plus, Kristin Ess and her Instagrams are a source of major (ginger!) hair envy for me. After falling in love with my blowout from Drybar last weekend, I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to make good hair last. Maybe hot rollers are my next step?

Crushable

I like to picture the ladies of Crushable as being like me, but with the ability to write in real-time about our favorite pop culture items. Curse you, day job! The Emmy nominations were announced this week, and, as always, some crazy talented people were left off the list. Most importantly: Tatiana Maslany got screwed. Have you watched Orphan Black or heard me rave about its brilliance at someone? SHE IS SO GOOD. I hardly ever write in all-caps, so you should clearly take me seriously.

Maslany plays around a dozen different characters – sometimes characters who are pretending to be one another. Each character is unique and complex and I have no clue where one begins and the actor ends. I’ve caught myself on more than one occasion wishing that I could see a real life discussion between the actors about how they relate to one another in this vaguely Canadian TV world only to remember that they’re all the same flipping person. I enjoy all of the women who did get nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, but Maslany’s performance cannot be equalled.
