From Japan with love: Tsumori Chisato
From Bunka Fashion College to the present-day, Tsumori Chisato has came a long way.
She was born in Saitama, in the Tokyo area, and, after attended qualified school, the designer started her career in 1977 at Issey Miyake fashion team, as head designer of Issey Sports, turned into I.S. Chisato Tsumori Design in few years.
In 1990, thanks to her initiative and talent, Chisato established her own brand, under the great influence of Miyake; Tsumori’s collection debuted during the Tokyo fashion week the same year, obtaining with success the spectators’ approval.
The Frenchy taste that certainly characterized the designer, took her to Paris, crossing the Asiatic line for the first time. Rue Barbette, in the middle of Marais district, was the perfect location for a new free-standing store, where a lot of collaborations with photographers and set designers will take place, to stress her passion for beauty and every kind of art too.
Last but not least, it’s important to underline the menswear collection in 2003, an important goal reached during her career.
Pattern is absolutely Tsumori Chisato’s mark: colorful, geometrical, unconventional, above the lines, with the healthy dose of manga touch.
In closing eccentricity, high quality textiles, perfect execution and a particular attention to details are the perfect mix for Paris catwalks.

Dal suo esordio avvenuto al Bunka Fashion College di Tokyo ad oggi, Tsumori Chisato ne ha fatta di strada.
La stilista nasce a Saitama, non lontana da Tokyo dove successivamente studierà, per poi dare inizio alla sua carriera nel 1977 presso il team creativo di Issey Miyake. Fin da subito diventa head designer della linea Issey Sports, che non tarderà, infatti, a prendere il nome di I.S. Chisato Tsumori Design.
Intraprendenza e talento la spingono a creare un brand a proprio nome nel 1990, anche e soprattutto grazie a quell’esperienza e sostegno accumulati durante il periodo sotto l’ala protettrice di Miyake stesso; la collezione debutta alla settimana della moda di Tokyo l’anno stesso, ottenendo grande consenso da parte del pubblico.
Per un’appassionata di tutto ciò che ha un certo retrogusto francese, approdare a Parigi è dunque il passo successivo, portando così la sua linea per la prima volta al di fuori dei confini asiatici.
È Rue Barbette, nel pieno centro del quartiere Marais, la location prescelta per il primo free-standing shop nel 1999, luogo che sarà teatro di numerose collaborazioni con fotografi e set designer, a sottolineare il suo forte legame con l’arte e tutto il mondo che la circonda.
Ultimo, ma non per importanza, vi è da menzionare il lancio del menswear nel 2003, uno tra i più recenti traguardi raggiunti dalla designer nipponica di nascita e francese d’adozione.
Le stampe fanno da padrone in ogni collezione. Colorate, geometriche, sopra le righe, mai convenzionali, impregnate di quel tocco di manga capace di risultare originale ed inconfondibile ma non eccessivo.
L’eccentricità dei pattern,la scelta dei tessuti ed un’impeccabile esecuzione sono, in fine, conditi con attenzione e studio verso i dettagli, rendendo ogni capo degno delle passerelle parigine.
