How to do the Oversized Sweater Trend (Casual)

The oversized sweater is a huge trend for fall and one that I am personally very happy about. It can be a little daunting though because you can easily become lost in all the fabric or worse, it can add a bunch of unwanted bulk to your frame. I would like to do this trend in two parts: Casual and Dressed-Up. You can really go either way with this trend and I absolutely love both of them when done right. In this post, we'll focus on the casual style.

I've really been loving this laid back style lately. I always want to reach for something oversized and cozy on top to give the carefree feeling. It must be the freedom I'm feeling after having to wear corporate clothes for so long -- having the option to choose my clothes based on that day's feeling is such a nice thing.
One of the key things to look for in an oversized sweater is to make sure that it hangs properly on your body. This one has an open weave and the fabric is quite weighty, so the sweater literally falls over your body. The material hangs straight down from the shoulders, showing the lines of your arms, rather than adding width to your sides. This is important because it won't add any bulk to your frame.
Free people makes the ultimate in slouchy sweaters. They are oversized, but because of the material they hang exactly the way you want them to.

You can't go wrong with skinny jeans under the oversized top. They help to show your shape and bonus: the oversized top makes your legs look way skinnier. The rips in these jeans are so much fun. I love the zipper detail on them. I've never seen this done before, but it really adds that extra edge.
My favorite is when the sweater is long enough to cover the bum. Sometimes you just want to be covered up, but the skinny jeans still help to show your shape. Also, the open weave gives a hint of your figure without being totally see-through.
Just add some cute booties and a bucket bag and you're ready to go! Perfect for a walk one a crisp fall day.
I hope you have a amazing Wednesday!
