Swatch & Review: Illamasqua ‘Destiny’

Illamasqua ‘Destiny’

In celebration of Chinese New Year, ‘Destiny’ is an Australian exclusive release from Illamasqua available only in Myer department stores. Thankfully my mum lives over there so I sent her back into town quick-smart! Thanks Mum! It’s green. An absolutely bloody amazing green at that.

To be more descriptive, it’s a deep squishy green jelly base with small and medium gold hex glitter. I’m not big on gold, but the depth of the green base makes it feel more like something from a swamp. In a good way. A swamp with mysterious creatures, not a smelly icky swamp.

It’s a little on the thick side, and some people have got away with one single coat, but it had the best depth at two coats for me. A top coat just made it that bit smoother as there’s a fair amount of glitter. It’s not gloopy thick, but it definitely can’t be described as thin.

I don’t really want to go into my ongoing issues with Illamasqua too much. Suffice to say, I’m a little frustrated at the continued overlooking of their home market here in the UK with exclusives in the US and Australia as well as cheaper prices (yes, that’s right Illamasqua polish actually works out cheaper even in Australia). Boycotting them might be an option, but to me that’s just cutting my nose to spite my face. I’d rather continue to have intelligent discussion about this topic in the hope of one day making a difference, and in the mean time refusing to pay UK retail prices. Even this polish qualifies in my ‘never pay retail’ rule for this brand as the Australian price is cheaper! Nifty.
