Swatch & Review: Morgan Taylor Glam Rock polishes

Morgan Taylor glam Rock collection

Today I have three of the new Glam Rock collection from Morgan Taylor. I was really impressed with the releases from this brand last year. The quality is great, they have some high opacity colours (you know how I like my 1 and 2 coaters because they’re brilliant for when I’m feeling lazy). I have ‘Polished Up Punk’, ‘Little Misfit’ and ‘Pretty Wild’ for you, and there’s also ‘Rebel With A Cause’, ‘Studs and Stilettos’ and ‘Better in Leather’.

First up is ‘Pretty Wild’, a mushroomy purple creme polish that is perfect in two coats. This is without a top coat and though it looks super shiny here it didn’t feel über glossy in person. It’s a nice smooth formula though and applies like a dream.

‘Polished Up Punk’ is a brilliant polish. Super glossy without a topcoat, I did apply one here because I wanted to wear it for longer than just swatching time. It was glossy enough alone, but the added wear time that a topcoat gives to any polish is undeniable. This is two coats, but you could just about get away with one. It’s a lovely dark but not too black looking blue.

I’ve shown ‘Little Misfit’ here over ‘Pretty Wild’. It just seemed a more logical swatch to show than swatching it alone, though with hindsight I’d have liked to have shown both. It’s a little sheer by itself for me to ever entertain as a stand alone polish – this is more of a personal preference than a recommendation because I have a love of high opacity, minimal coat polishes. Over ‘Pretty Wild’ though it is lovely. It gives a nice, solid, but fairly neutral base for the duochrome of ‘Little Misfit’ which flashes from purple to a sort of murky green.

Overall the quality of these three was on par with my previous experiences with the brand – smooth, easy to manage formulas and reliable wear time. The only annoyance for me with these polishes is the naming. Unless ‘Pretty Wild’ is meant to be a bit tongue in cheek about a colour that I consider to be extremely muted and not at all ‘wild’, perhaps I’m missing something. The collection as a whole seems to work well together, I’m just confused by the names. It all looks a little bit ‘glam’, but not much ‘rock’.

Important Bits:

Availability: Here in the UK I still only know of Sally’s selling Morgan Taylor, but if you’re heading to any of the trade expos be sure to keep an eye out for them because you might be able to pick them up for less than the RRP of £10.99
