Barry M Aquarium Swatch & Review

Barry M Aquarium collection

In complete contrast to the pastel Gelly trio, the Aquarium collection is a range of 4 duochrome base colours and two shard glitter toppers.

Warning: Picture heavy. So, so many pictures.

Arabian is probably my favourite of the bunch. Not completely original but a nice polish, and the brush strokes are pretty minimal for this type of polish, this is three coats.

To show the best variety of combinations, I’ve topped each of the four bases with the coordinating glitter topper with an accent of the other topper. Here ‘Arabian’ is topped with ‘Mermaid’ and an accent of ‘Treasure Chest’.

I have to be honest, ‘Caspian’ is by far my least favourite of this collection. It’s just not my colour, plus it felt thinner and less opaque than the rest.

And because my photos of Caspian were a bit of a let down you only get one of the glitter toppers.

‘Pacific’ is a blue metallic, quite a pretty colour.

And with the toppers…

Finally, ‘Mediterranean’ looks like an Accessorize ‘Pink Spice’, nails inc ‘New Burlington Place, and an OPI that I can never remember the name of.

Then I did a gradient using ‘Mediterranean’ and ‘Caspian’.

Overall it’s not a bad collection, though not my favourite. I was a little surprised that the base colours really needed 3 coats to feel fully opaque. The two blues could have probably at a push got away with 2 but the third did make a difference. The shards are great to see from Barry M because they make for an interesting topper rather than regular hex glitters. They are top coat hungry though, and the first coat out of the bottle is super loaded with shards so I’d suggest wiping the bulk of the polish off the brush first then dip in for your first coat for a more manageable amount.

And for something a little bit different here’s ‘Mermaid’ over Gelly ‘Huckleberry’.

What do you think to this range? If you’re a lover of duochromes (which I admit, I’m not the biggest duochrome fan out there)I suspect some of these will be making it to your wishlist.
