How To Decoupage

Happy Monday everyone, hope you have all had a great weekend. Today I thought I would do a little post about a really fun and easy form of craft. Decoupage is a simple little technique that requires gluing cutouts of paper onto an object to create a glossy and colourful finish. I have turned my hand to decoupage to create this jewellery box using some gorgeous flowery decoupage paper for a summery make-over. Decoupage is so easy and really effective. You can literally transform a boring old box into a beautiful creation, like I have with this jewellery box. You can get some beautiful paper designs, or you can simply use old magazines or newspapers if you fancy.
You will need:
decoupage paper or tissue paper
paper mache box
PVA glue
white paint
paintbrush
scissors

1. Tear up the decoupage paper into rough squares.
2. Mix PVA glue with some water to make a paste. Starting with the lid of the box, cover a small surface with the glue, stick down a piece of decoupage paper and glue over the top.
3. Repeat this to cover the entire lid and the inside rim. Leave this to dry.
4. Paint the inside of the lid.
5. If necessary, paint a second coat and neaten up the edges.
6. Paint the outside and inside edges of the box and leave to dry.
7. Decoupage the inside base of the box.
8. Cut rounded edges of the decoupage paper for a neat finish around the walls.

Leave everything to dry, and now you have yourself a beautiful new box to keep those special items of jewellery.

Have any of you tried decoupage before? What goodies have you made? Love Kate x
