Basia's Bookshelf

So, some things have changed….

I had been thinking about switching over later in the week, but I was finally done working on this and decided to just go ahead and move right away.

There really was a technical reason behind this change, it wasn’t all about the cosmetics (though you know how I love messing with the cosmetics). The other blog had gotten buggy for some reason. A combination of plugins that stopped updating, another plugin that updated twice a week and both WordPress and my theme going through some major changes meant that I kept running into roadblocks when I tried to streamline something or fix a problem. The last straw was when I stopped being able to edit altogether in the Chrome browser.

So. In this shiny new home, some things are simpler and hopefully easier to look at and find. I made some alterations with the help of my theme’s creator that will help make things readable on mobile devices. The comment section is a little bit of a work in progress. I’m not able to use Disqus with my particular software, so it’s a combination of a Genesis plugin and Jetpack – please let me know if things get wonky for you. I’m having a terrible problem with spam, but I don’t want to go overboard and make anyone have to log in with captcha (yuck!).

I’ve made some small changes, nothing huge. Up on the menu bar, I’ve added a spot for Popular Categories to replace the widget in the sidebar that listed every single category and was a little unwieldy. The search feature I’ve added this time is more powerful and gives related results (I spelled a couple of things wrong and ended up with different posts). There may be some issues with subscriptions depending on how well I was able to get those to work again, but I guess if you’ve gotten one today, they work!

If you have any problems navigating anywhere let me know!

edit: Okay the comment system is already a little wonky. I can’t reply without getting an error message saying I haven’t filled out my name and email section, even though the form says I’m using my WP account. So…yeah, working on that one.
