Butter London Rock Your Colour – Part One
Well, well, well. Long time, eh? Let’s break the silence with a couple of posts featuring something a bit out of the ordinary here at TLD – makeup! Butter London (yes, that Butter London… the one with all the great nail polish) recently released a cosmetics line full of items in bold colors. They graciously provided me a selection of items from the collection, and I meant to post a review on the release date, but I received the package right before I left on vacation. I’d say it was terrible timing, except I’ve had the opportunity to really play with everything and form a solid opinion.
Butter London’s cosmetics line consists of six nail polishes (five new), six mascaras, six lip glosses, six tinted balms, four cream blushes, six eye pencils, and six cream eye shadows. The prices (in USD) are as follows:

To avoid image overload I’m breaking the review into two parts, so let’s start with nails, cheeks, and lips.
First up, a nail polish in Indigo Punk. Below I have three coats, which I would consider full-coverage.
The application was mostly even, though I found myself going over little patches here and there. I used Butter London’s Hardwear top coat for smoothness and shine, which added to the manicure’s durability. I wore the polish for a few days with very little tip wear.
An aside: My bottle of Hardwear is almost gone and I neeeeeeed to go out and get another one. It’s replaced Seche Vite for me; although it’s not as fast-drying as Seche Vite, I find I get better wear and less shrinkage. That’s a trade-off I’m willing to take.
Anyway…
The removal process for Indigo Punk was relatively easy due to the fine glitter. Gotta love that.
Next up is a cream blush in Abbey Rose.
Can I just talk about the packaging for a second? Look at the inside of the box… it’s adorable. The compact itself is light, but doesn’t feel cheap.
Butter London describes Abbey Rose as a ‘rose pink’, but I detect a hint of coral. Maybe it’s just me / my skin. Either way, I’m impressed. The blush blends nicely and application is smooth. Just be sure to use a light hand; a little goes a long way.
Then there’s a tinted lip balm in Black Cherry. I was a slightly intimidated upon opening it, since it’s a little dark compared to my regular lip makeup. However, Butter London provided a tip in their look book – apply to the back of your hand and press on for a stained look. Perfect. I really need to get an action shot of that application technique and edit it into this post! Done!
Below you’ll see it at its boldest. Like the blush, this balm applied smoothly. It has a satin finish and better wear than many other tinted balms I’ve tried in the past.
Finally, here is a lip gloss in Coconut Frock, which is described as a sheer apricot gloss. Sheer. Very sheer. Essentially-a-clear-gloss sheer.
The wand has a brush tip, as opposed to the doe-foot applicators on Butter London’s liquid lipsticks.
As clear glosses go, it’s a good one. It’s a little thick and sticky which makes for longer wear, and the finish is shiny. The scent is a subtle vanilla and there is no discernible taste.
