10 Cute Little Girl Hairstyles

The other day I had an epiphany. I may not have girls but I have nieces! Well, I have three beautiful real nieces and then there’s my cousin’s daughters who are pretty much my nieces too. I can do cute girl hairstyles on them!

Meet Brooklynn. She’s going into 6th grade and loves beauty and fashion. I don’t know why I had never thought of this before, but meet my new assistant!

Well, not really assistant, we just had a fun day doing hairstyles, playing with makeup and taking pictures. Since I had her with me and she’s starting school soon, I thought it would be fun to share 10 cute girl hairstyles for back to school!

10 Cute Girl Hairstyles for back to School

Isn’t she adorable? She is. And it was so fun to hang with her and do these. She thought of some and I thought of some and together we came up with some cool looks! I wanted them to be easy enough for your daughter to do herself (at a reasonable age, of course!) or for you to easily be able to do for her. Let’s get started.

Elsa Side Braid

This is Brooklynn’s sister, Savannah. She is also a true beauty. She’s turning 8 soon and although it was fun to help a bit, she had some playing to do and didn’t stay too long. All you do for this Elsa braid is start on said where the part is going toward and braid a regular French braid all the way down. This one ended up being Savannah’s favorite. (duh #Elsabraid)

French Fishtail

Same as number one, really, but with a fishtail. Fishtails may look a lot more complicated than they really are and if you’ve never tried, you should! It’s two strands instead of three, so if you can’t braid you still might be able to fishtail! Brooklynn thought to add the blue flower, it’s pretty, isn’t it?

Mini Ponytails

I used to wear my hair like this when I played volleyball back in the day. I just needed my hair out of my face and ready to play! Well, I remembered it when I was doing their hair and thought it would be perfect for Savannah. She is very active, a soccer rock-star, and loves dance. These mini-ponytails keep her hair out of her face and also create a cute design!

Simple Half up

This is the simplest half up you’ve ever seen. Use a thing plastic elastic and pull the hair you want half up. Then pull the elastic out a tad bit and twist and poof. Once you have the twist you want, secure with pins. We added the cute bow on the side to cover up any pins and we thought it was cute!

Half Twisted-Pony,

I personally love this one. It’s super easy & cute. All you do is create a ponytail in the back. Then start dong a topsy-turvy thing with the ponytail by starting to pull it through. Stop half way so that hair is sticking out and secure with bobby pins. It creates a cute, short ponytail that’s off their neck and still adorable!

Mohawk/Faux-hawk

Wait, no – this is my favorite! I love, love, love the mohawk! It’s edgy without being too much. It’s also perfect for summer when it’s so hot. And in California, fall included since it’s hot then too! I have a tutorial for this look that I did on my own hair. It’s basically 4 messy buns pinned together to form a mohawk!

Simple Side Twist

This is one of the ones Brooklynn chose. It’s obviously simple enough for little girls to do themselves or you could help too. Take a section of the front and do a simple twist back. We secured with bobby pins and then put the bow over it because we thought it was cute! A bow in a little girl’s hair is always great!

Top Knot

Top knot for little girl hairstyles? Why not! I loved pulling Brooklynn’s hair all the way up, teasing the heck out of the ponytail part and wrapping it around. This is perfect for tweens that want to feel older but aren’t quite there yet. I feel like Brooklynn liked it and felt a little more mature. Adding the bow in the back made it girly and cute!

4 Little twists

Another way to use a topsie tail! All you do is part off sections, take a small elastic and secure that section of hair. Then open a whole in that ponytail and pull the hair all the way through the whole. Pull it a tad to tighten, and then do the others. Great way to keep their hear out of their face for school!

Waterfall Braid

This was her idea and she loved it! I even ended up doing it again for her another day. I have made a video tutorial, I just need to get it up on the blog! It’s a great little girl hairstyle and your daughter will feel amazing first day of school with this beauty!

There you have it! 10 little girl hairstyles for back to school! Have anything to add? I’d love to hear about it in the comments! Or, give me a challenge! Any hairstyles (for little girls or adults!) would you like me to try?
