Having a Successful Morning with First :59

I’m not a morning person. I’m just not. It’s such a shame too, because I’d really love to be a morning person. I’d love to be the person that pops out of bed at 5:30 am ready to start their day all happy, sipping on their green juice smiling at everyone. Oh, a girl can dream.

But I’m not, I’ve come to realize that this is a fact of life. That, while I can train myself to get up in the morning, I will never be a true morning person. There is a secret though. You might have caught it – you can train yourself. I do believe it can be done. It takes consistency, planning, and endurance, but I really do believe it can be done.

Have you ever noticed that the first hour of your day is kind of what colors your day? If you’re unorganized, frazzled & all over the place you might never feel caught up and put together for the day. However, if you have a routine that works and you bust through that bad boy like no one’s business, you will feel like you can conquer the world!

Seeing that my kids are also not morning people, I thought I would/can do my best to train them young to get up and get at ‘em early in the mornings. Because a good day begins at home with a happy morning, Ikea has launched a new program called First :59. It is designed to help consumers (people like me and you!) with tips, advice, and little nuggets of wisdom to make our mornings easier and happier.

Ikea even took a survey to find out what people’s problems with morning times and they offer some quick, easy, inexpensive fixes to them. For example, they said that 88% of respondents eat breakfast during the week and 71% agree that it’s important for energy throughout the day. I am among the group that agrees that it’s important, I am rarely, however, a part of the group that actually eats it. Something about making everyone else breakfast reduces me to consider coffee a breakfast food. (It’s not…)

I’m totally inspired by Ikea’s campaign. I already have started a list of things I want to work on:

  • Kids chores done before school (i.e. clean room & bed made) – I want to buy this for it.
  • Eat breakfast (for me) – Maybe make a smoothie ahead of time and keep it in this?
  • Create more of a routine for me and the kids – Chores on this!
  • Create a less stressed environment for my kids in the morning

They seem pretty simple, right? I think I can do it. I’m going to get to practicing it and making it a routine for my family and in a couple weeks I’m going to check back in and let you know how I’m doing, how’s that sound?!

In the meantime, you can start creating a less stressful, happy morning routine too! You can share your own morning routines or even questions and suggestions with the hashtag #First59 as well to help out the other, less-organized/put together people of the world, to get their acts together! And since we’re all very visual people and Pinterest is where it’s at, you can follow Ikea’s First59 board to find tips to turn your mornings into great mornings!

And please, share your tips for a successful morning in the comments!! I will take any tips I can get!
