• Looking to Adopt a pet? Chicago’s Anti-Cruelty Society may be able to help. DNAinfo reports that an effort to meet it’s goal of adopting 2,100 pets by the end of the month, they are waiving the adoption fees which can amount to $95-$150 for dogs and $65-$85 for cats. (DNA INFO CHICAGO)

• A week after his killing, there’s still more questions that answers and the National Guard has been deployed to Ferguson, Missouri. NY Times reported on the private autopsy findings conducted by renowed medical examiner Dr. Michael M. Baden. His findings, which does nto take into account police or witness statements, states that 6 bullets, two to the head killed unarmed teen Michael Brown. (NYTIMES)
•$245,000! That is the reported amount it would take to raise a child, born in 2013 until the age of 18 and that doesn’t include tuition costs. The recently released figures from U.S. Department of Agriculture is up 2% from last year. “High-income families who live in the urban Northeast, for example, are projected to spend nearly $455,000 to raise their child to the age of 18, while low-income rural families will spend much less, an estimated $145,500…Child care, in particular, is a huge burden often costing as much as the family home.” (CNN)

• Wikileaks founder Julian Assagne hopes to leave the London embassy in Equador “soon.” He has had to call the embassy home for two years to avoid being extradited to Sweden to face rape rand sexual assault charges against him. During a press conference he acknowledged “his health had suffered during his time inside the embassy.” (BBC)
• Guilty! Mercedes Benz has been found guilty of “manipulating prices for after-sales services in China” reports reuters. The investigation and subsequent charge came after “complaints that foreign carmakers were overcharging Chinese customers for vehicles and spare parts.” The cost of replacing all the spare parts in a Mercedes-Benz C-Class could be 12 times more than buying a new vehicle. Luxury car maker Audi is being fined 250 million yuan for similar charge. (REUTERS)

• The dollar store war. Dollar General Corp has entered the bidding ring in effort to buy competitor, Family Dollar Stores. Dollar General’s $9.7 billion offer to buy exceeds the offer last month of $8.5 billion by Dollar Tree. “Dollar General plans to pay $78.50 a share in cash, compared with Dollar Tree’s bid of $74.50 a share in cash and stock, according to a statement today. The deal will generate $550 million to $600 million in cost savings annually three years after its completion.” (BLOOMBERG)
