Paula’s Choice Clear Acne Treatment

I was sent some trial sets from BzzAgent to try for free, and I gave these just over a month trial and am ready to share my thoughts.

If you didn’t know, Paula Begoun is the guru when it comes to ingredients and skin care products. She started her own line, Paula’s Choice, and has been very successful with it. I had always wanted to try her stuff out, but always hesitated to pull the trigger because of cost. Her products are not super expensive, but when you’re used to drugstore prices it can feel a bit like sticker shock. I was super excited when I was sent these.

Since I was sent several kits, I had my teenage son try them too. He is also dealing with acne and blackheads. This trial set (which can be purchased on her web site) comes with a cleanser, a serum, and an acne treatment.

Clear Cleanser

I really love this cleanser. It effectively cleanses my skin without drying it out. It rinsed away clean, and my skin looked really clean when I was done. It is not good at removing makeup, but I did use it as a follow up after using oil to remove my makeup. It worked well that way.

Clear Exfoliant Serum

This feels really nice and light. You are supposed to use a cotton ball to apply it to your skin, but I found I used less product by just smoothing it on with clean hands. This actually did reduce my blackheads a bit, but only made them lighter. I was excited at first to see them get lighter, but my hopes of finally getting rid of my blackheads never panned out.

Blemish Treatment

This didn’t work for me. It is made with Benzoyl Peroxide, which dries my skin out like crazy. I gave it a try anyway hoping it might be OK, but it wasn’t. I ended up with the red, dry, irritated skin I always get from benzoyl peroxide. I couldn’t use this the full month. In a few days I had to quit.

Clear System

So how did it work? Well, it didn’t. I liked how gentle (minus the acne treatment) this was on my skin. I enjoyed using them. But they didn’t do a thing for my acne. As I said my son tried them too, and he didn’t see an improvement either (though like me, they worked to clean his skin without drying it out). I won’t be buying this set again, because as a treatment for acne these products didn’t work. However, I was impressed with how effectively they cleansed without stripping my skin, so I did go ahead and order some other Paula’s Choice products that I have begun testing and am excited to share with you soon.
