South Baltimore Business Roundup

Work Begins at 1201 South Charles St.

First introduced in late 2012, contractor Whiting Turner has set up a trailer – and work has begun – at 1201 South Charles St. The new mixed-use project at the former Lutheran Mission adjacent to Ropewalk Tavern will include ground floor retail and 16 market rate two-bedroom apartments. Zoning changes, including new parking requirements for the building, were made on this property many years ago when a boutique hotel was sought for the site.

Though the developer was originally planning 16 parking spots, they were only able to fit ten into the plans. Tenants who are not able to get one of the ten spots will not be granted area parking passes and will have to either find a local garage spot or live without a car.

Baseball News

The Orioles hold a 7.5 game lead in the American League East, the largest division lead in MLB, with a little more than a quarter of the season left. Although making the playoffs is not a guarantee, the Orioles are sending out playoff invoices to season ticket holders next week. From an article in the Baltimore Business Journal:

Fans with full season plans will be given the option to purchase tickets to all potential home playoff games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Fans with a 29-game plan can purchase tickets to six games, while 13-game holders can buy tickets to three games, or one game per postseason round.

Baltimore was also at the center of the baseball world this week as Wednesday’s Yankees vs. Orioles game at Camden Yards aired on ESPN, and the MLB owners met at the Hyatt Downtown to vote on the new Commissioner of Baseball.

New Signage for 2 East Wells

2 East Wells is currently under construction at the site of the former McCall Warehouse in South Baltimore and is anticipated to open in Winter 2015. The mixed-use project will feature 153 apartments, 5,467 sq. ft. of retail, and a 260-car parking garage.

As the opening nears for the apartments and retail space (two tenants to be named soon), there is a new sign at the top of the five-story parking garage that reads, “Industrial-Chic Apartments, Winter 2015.”
