Effortless Meals from Walmart & Coca Cola

I recently re-joined the “rat race”. It’s only a part time job but I’m still trying to figure out how to balance working, my blog, keeping my home clean and keeping up with my family. Some days I don’t know if I’m “coming or going”.

Being a stay at home/work from home mom all these years meant that I almost always had plenty of time to prepare dinner for my family. There were times I was too busy or just not up to cooking a big meal. That is why I relied on pre-made meals, frozen foods or our friendly neighborhood pizza or Chinese delivery guys.

Whenever possible I prefer freshly made meals – meals that are similar to what I would make if I had the time or inclination.

Not too long ago my kids and I were are an area Walmart Super Store picking up a few things. My kids and I didn’t have lunch yet and were were all starving.

The only eateries near by were fast food joints and pricey sit down restaurants. Neither option seemed good to me.

Fortunately I discovered the section of Walmart where they keep their store made meals. There we found freshly made sandwiches, salads, roasted chicken, pasta salads, pizza, bread sticks and more.

My kids were eyeing the sandwiches so we picked up some for lunch. While we were there we picked up a pizza and bread sticks for dinner one night during the week and a roasted chicken for dinner that night. We also picked up some Coca Cola to enjoy with our meals.

My kids could not wait to eat the their sandwiches. I had to wait until I got home (I didn’t want to eat and drive). Normally I don’t like my kids eating in the car but I knew they were hungry and told them to enjoy their sandwiches as long as they took a photo for me.

My daughter opted for a ham and Swiss sandwich. My teen son who has a HUGE appetite grabbed one of the super subs (he was really hungry). His eyes were bigger than his stomach because he could only eat half of it (a regular size sub sandwich). He saved the rest and had it later on in the day.

I was very impressed by the price. The super sub which could easily feet 2-3 people was only $5.98! A regular size sub from the deli where we live is almost $8.00.

My kids loved the sandwiches so much that the next time we were at Walmart they picked up other sandwiches.

I picked up a sandwich for myself. I also picked up a yummy wrap for lunch the next day, salads, pizza, a cheddar bacon pasta salad, roasted chicken and Coca Cola.

That night we had the roasted chicken for dinner. I also steamed some vegetables I picked up at Walmart, baked some fries and we split the salads among the four of us. Talk about effortless! Aside from popping some veggies in our microwave steamer and tossing some frozen fries on a pan and cooking them in the oven for about 20 minutes the meals was quick and easy to make.

If I had to roast the chicken myself it would have taken a long time. The same would apply for the salads. It takes time to wash the vegetables and chop them all up.

When you are busy and don’t have much time to prepare and cook a satisfying meal it’s great to know that Walmart helps you to prepare effortless meals that are quick, easy and delicious.

Later on in the week we enjoyed the pizza and bread sticks for dinner. Of course we enjoyed a cold glass of Coca Cola too.

I love the effortless meal options available at Walmart. Not only can they help out a busy family with dinner but they are also great for lunch and grabbing a few things for an impromptu family picnic.

Many of these meals you can “dress up” with easy to prepare and make side dishes too.

Rotisserie chicken can be enhanced in many ways. One of my favorite uses for rotisserie chicken is to make a box of fettuccini, remove the chicken from the bone, toss with the cooked pasta and add a jar of Alfredo sauce. Or steam some broccoli and whip up rice or bow tie pasta and toss in pieces of the rotisserie chicken and some Yoshida sauce. Mmmm… GOOD!

Not only do the effortless meals save me time but they also save me money. I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the meals area. They are certainly budget friendly.
