Halloween is just around the corner. Most children are already picking out their costumes and making plans with friends to go trick-or-treating. Candy is on the minds of most children – and some adults too.

My kids used to bring home A LOT of candy. It was great for a day or two but after that it was candy “overkill”. We would end up sending most of it to work with my husband to share with his co-workers. The candy that we did save usually ended up getting thrown out around Christmas. Thankfully my kids wouldn’t want to gobble it all up. They enjoyed their favorites for a few days and then were over it.

I like to offer trick-or-treaters something different. This year I am looking into getting some child-friendly comic books to give out instead of candy. I also have a supply of Wendy’s® Jr. Frosty™ Halloween Coupon Books**. I like to pick up several to not only give out at Halloween to the trick-or-treaters but I also like to keep a few on hand “just because”.

The coupon books are only $1.00 each. I can buy 2-3 books for what it costs me to buy a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee spot. As much as I love coffee it’s gone in a few minutes whereas the coupons are good for a while and the whole experience of going to Wendy’s® with the family and making fun memories outweighs that cup of coffee.

We first learned about the Jr. Frosty™ Halloween Coupon Books several years ago when my kids were little. They brought them home in their trick-or-treat bags. They were more excited about going to Wendy’s® to get the Jr. Frosty™ ice cream then they were the candy they received that night.

I remember one time we went to Wendy’s® to redeem the coupons and my son jokingly dipped his french fry into the Jr. Frosty™ and ate it trying to gross out my daughter. My son actually loved the flavor combination. So much so every time we go to Wendy’s® he always gets a Jr. Frosty™ and dips his fries in it! My daughter does it too. I have yet to try it. I prefer ketchup on my fries. LOL!

Purchasing the coupon books makes me feel good too because I know the proceeds are going to a great charitable cause, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® (DTFA) which supports foster care adoption.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® believes that we have a responsibility to be the voice of foster care adoption, so that every child finds a family. As founder Dave Thomas said, “These children are not someone else’s responsibility. They are our responsibility.” The DTFA exist to find homes for children who are waiting to be adopted from foster care in North America.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® has been around for the past 22 years and helped to find families for 4,000 foster children. That is amazing!

This year the foundation hopes to raise $10 million dollars.

I was not adopted, but I was raised by my paternal grandparents. They are my mom and dad. I can related to adopted children because of it. I know how it feels not knowing your biological parents and having questions about your ancestry. Thankfully I have a great relationship with my biological father. I wish I knew more about my biological mother.

Ninety cents of every $1 Wendy’s® Jr. Frosty™ Halloween Coupon Books sold between September 13, 2014 through October 31, 2014 will go towards the charity. The coupons are valid from November 1, 2014 through February 1, 2015.

Since the coupons can be enjoyed up to February 1st of next year you could use the coupons as stocking stuffers, rewards for good behavior and other fun purposes.
