Review: J. Crew Wintress Puffer

In this post I will review J. Crew’s Wintress Puffer, 52362 (will also review the Factory version, the Long Belted Puffer Jacket, 19471, in a future post).

I’ve been in the mood to buy some new outerwear! I’d love to splurge on a classic Moncler coat, like this beauty, but unfortunately I don’t have the means to do so. So I’m trying to find the next best thing. I’ve been loving the comfort that puffers provide, so I decided to give J. Crew’s Wintress Puffer a shot! I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this coat.

Sizing: I’m wearing an xxs (not petite) in this coat. I’m wearing some thin layers under it and its slightly too snug in the shoulder region. I think I would have to size up to an xs for comfort with layering. Otherwise it fits very well. Not overly snug in any one region. The length is good for me in the body and sleeves (but note that I’m only 5’3″)!

Fit: This is quite a flattering cut for a puffer. As a petite, I can easily get lost in winter outerwear. But not this one. I think the proportions are perfect. The quilting of the down is well done. The belt is in a great spot, too, which is important.

Warmth: This coat would provide adequate warmth in most climates. Its thick and puffy, obviously! Its filled with down, which you can’t go wrong with. Its made out of a polyester fabric, which would be fine unless there was a really strong, frigid wind (not totally wind-proof). There are snaps and a zipper closure to prevent wind from seeping in through the gaps, though, which is nice. The hood also is nice and big and would be perfect worn by itself or great for layering over a hat.

Colors: I got the black color because I’m boring, but if this coat goes on sale in the crimson, that’s the color that I would snatch up. Its beautiful!

Quality: I’m happy with the overall quality of this puffer! There weren’t any flaws or things I could be disappointed in. There were even a few extra things I wasn’t expecting, like fuzzy pocket interiors! I still wouldn’t pay full price for this, but I’ll keep my eye on it for sale time
