Captured: A Surprise Engagement

I’m by no means a professional photographer. But, I make exceptions and sometimes pretend I’m one. My friend Mark recently called me and asked me if I wanted to take a few photos after he was asked his girlfriend, Mallory, to be his wife. My response was an enthusiastic yessssssss, please! It was amazing to be part of that day with them from behind the lens.

It was especially great to see the mixture of (happy) tears and complete surprise and elation from Mallory, and Mark as well. They were full of raw emotion and love.

As I’m not a wedding photographer, capturing this type of emotion is new to me. It’s nice to be part of something so special. It’s made even better when it’s two human beings you know and consider to both be equally adorable. Yes, I called a man adorable. If you know Mark and his grandpa sweater, you would surely understand.

Mark proposed with an animation he’d created that he had shown at The Moxie, an independent movie theater in town, hence the Milk Duds and Junior Mints in the background.
