Mara Dawn Dockery

Speed Racer

Alder is quite the car fanatic; so much so that we never leave the house with at least one in each of his hands. When it came time to come up with a Halloween costume, we knew we had to work in some sort of car. I’m typically one for more of the fluffy, cute costumes for little kiddos, but racing stripes and cars with flames are what he loves, so we went with it. I’m pretty proud of my husband for all the work he put into that little blue race car he made out of cardboard. He spent a lot of time on it, only to have Alder refuse to wear it when he was actually trick or treating. He wore it plenty of other times throughout the day and was quite excited about that car, so I think it was all worth it.

A little disclaimer: I meant to post these photos a few days ago, buuuut the time change had other ideas. Having a toddler that doesn’t realize there’s a time change (hello 4:30am) and a pregnant body that definitely recognizes the time change (hello 9pm bedtime) means I’ve been a little behind on a number of things. However, I couldn’t not post the photographic evidence. This is the first year we’ve somewhat planned ahead and actually gotten a bigger costume finished.

This year Halloween was especially fun since we have a toddler who can now understand that saying trick or treat equals getting candy. He was determined to get as much candy as he possibly could. We had a pretty great time walking around a historic neighborhood with friends and family while the boy said, “tic or tree” to whoever would listen.

I made a little last-minute label for his treat bucket because the designer in me can’t not take every opportunity to design something. Right?
